Ever wondered how long it takes billfish to recover after being caught?
NSU Doctoral candidate and research associate, Ryan Logan has been studying the recovery of sailfish and blue marlin in regards to sport-fishing.
In collaboration with the Guy Harvey Research Institute at NSU and Tropic Star Lodge in Panama, his research found that sailfish and marlin recover in only a few hours and the longer these species fight, the longer it takes them to recover. This research highlights the importance of proper catch and release to ensure that billfish species will be around for future generations to enjoy.
