Our History

It began with a young boy’s pursuit of fishing and exploring the waters around Jamaica. As the connection deepened, his pursuit became a passionate quest to fish, dive and explore the world’s waters – eventually becoming an authentic commitment and focus of a life’s work. With years of formal training, expeditionary research, and reefs explored, Guy educates the concerned about the state of our oceans and its fisheries and influences legislative change. Today, Guy Harvey and team remain steadfast in their responsibility and commitment to leading the way for ocean health.

At a young age, Guy Harvey realized an undeniably deep connection to the ocean, which would become the focus of a life’s work. During his childhood, years of formal training and countless ocean-based research expeditions, Guy was inspired by the overwhelming beauty of the ocean and the creatures that lie within to create scientifically accurate, vibrantly stunning artwork. Guy Harvey’s authentic artwork grew to become the vehicle to raise awareness and funds to advance the important, cause-oriented research. The information gained through the research is made accessible through an innovative, experiential education platform teaching multiple generations around the world about the oceans’ health and how to take action to make positive impacts. Today, as a socially responsible leader, Guy Harvey and team remain steadfast in their commitment as a catalyst for ocean health.

The Man Behind the Mission

Raised in Jamaica, where he spent much of his childhood swimming and diving off the south coast he developed an affinity for the ocean early on.

When his mother gave him a copy of Ernest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea the simple tale of one man’s epic struggle with a massive marlin resonated deeply. So much so that, aged 18, he created a series of 44 pen and ink drawings that launched his artistic career.

Dr. Harvey graduated with honors in marine biology from Aberdeen University in Scotland in 1977 and earned a doctorate from the University of the West Indies in 1982 in fisheries management and fish biology.

It was while teaching that he decided to exhibit some of his illustrations of The Old Man and the Sea. The overwhelming sales of his limited edition prints convinced him to set aside his scientific career for a time and turn his hobby into a business.
